Nothing can stand in the way of outspoken, rule-breaker-extraordinaire; Kaddy Richston…except destiny. She set her sights on being in a rock band and leaving her small Wyoming town along with the painful memories of her past.

But destiny had other plans for her.

The observant Cole Huntington enters her life and becomes the bump in the road Kaddy is trying to pave for her future. Striking blue eyes, features to make any girl swoon, he’s everything but the new-to-town bad boy. Calm, cool, and always collected, he plans on unraveling every one of Kaddy’s dark secrets.

Kaddy is determined to undermine whatever intentions he has until she learns of a destiny she never asked for. The only person she can turn to for answers is the last person she’d want help from: Cole Huntington, who seemed to dislike her rule-breaking as much as she dislikes his rule-following.

EXCERPT

My eyes scanned through the trees, searching for the source of the sound and that was when I had spotted a deer staring back at me, equally frozen. Sighing, I relaxed, chastising myself for being so fearful. You’re fine. You spooked yourself over nothing—I barely had time to register a thought when I was snatched, yanked back by my hair. Something burning hot stabbed into my side.

“We’ve been looking for you,” a voice hissed in my ear.

I gasped at the pain, feeling the metal singe my stomach. Ramming my elbow into the chest of the Half-Soul, I could tell part of his soul was indeed missing. He smelled of death. He stumbled back and into the face of a rock at the force of my hit. I grabbed the handle of the blade that jutted from my left side, wrenching it out. Blood started to gush from the wound as I applied pressure, trying to get it to stop.

In seconds, the Half-Soul was on his feet and coming at me, red eyes blazing. I dove out of the way, but my movements seemed clumsy with pain racking my body. I did my best to focus on breathing as I stood to my feet, not seeing him. I balled my blood-covered fists, preparing for his next move. Hearing him before I saw him, I spun around, grabbing his arm and throwing him to the ground, just like Cole had taught me and Gidson had reinforced.

“Someone has been training you, haven’t they?” A hoarse laugh came from the skinny guy who tried to get up from the earth. I had no idea who he was, but he wasn’t much older than me.

Again he came at me, but I blocked nearly every movement he made in my direction until he grabbed my shirt and tossed me to the edge of the cliff. He was much stronger than he looked. My side took a blow as I rolled, reinjuring the stab wound. The burning sensation of the metal still felt fresh as I winced, gritting my teeth. Red Eyes made his way over and stared down at me.
