Blue Faust considers herself an ordinary girl. A little shy, maybe, and a smidge isolated. But she’s got a plan for that, and a list.

When she and her mother move to a new city, she implements it. This will be The Year of New Things, and there will be adventures. Little does she know just how right she is.

While out hiking one day with new friends, she finds herself in a strange world. She is confronted with kidnappers, stubborn beast-mounts and killer crystals. Throw in an assortment of hooligans, mercenaries and clansmen, and Blue has all New she can handle.

Stop kidnappers

Get home

Easy, right?

EXCERPT

Pulling out the cleanest clothes she had left, she was just lying down for a nap when she remembered she was supposed to open the connecting door. Getting up, she opened the door, never thinking she might need to knock.

Mo’ata stood there half naked, leaning over his pack and pulling out clothes. It was obvious he had just used the bath himself; his long hair was wet, brushed back off his face, and a few drops rolled down his muscular back. Blue made a small sound, an unconscious whimper, and he whirled around, a shirt in his hand. Blue just continued to stare at his chest now, and he made no move to cover up. The tattoos on his arms extended to his chest, which was well defined, as was his stomach. Their eyes met briefly, but her gaze was drawn back to his chest as his muscles flexed. Is he… preening?

Then Forrest walked out of the bathing area, a towel wrapped around his waist and using another to dry his hair. “Hey, Mo’ata, do you think we can get some clean clothes? I hate putting on these dirty things after finally getting clean.” He walked over to his own bed and dropped the towel, picking up his borrowed trousers. Blue got an eye full of his young body, from the back at least. He was trim and defined, though nothing like Mo’ata. Understandable, since he was still developing and growing.

Her eyes just about popped out of her head, and her mouth dropped open. She tried to say something, but all that came out was a strange gurgling sound. Forrest spun around, saw her, and spun again so his back was to her once more, quickly pulling on the trousers. “Shit, Blue! Shit! I’m sorry; I didn’t know you were there! Shit, just give me a moment.” All of this prodded Mo’ata into action as well, and he pulled on his shirt, walking toward Blue, who was frozen in the doorway.

“Blue?”

“I think you broke me. My brain is broken.  We need to put danger signs on you guys. I’m just going to go back into my room now and melt into a puddle of embarrassment. Don’t mind me, I’ll—” Blue cut herself off. She sounded like an idiot. She backed slowly into her room, both of them watching her with unreadable expressions.

When she automatically reached to close the door, Mo’ata gestured, and she stopped, recalling he wanted it left open.

“Yeah, right, open. I’ll leave the door open. Because that’s good for my heart. Crap, I have to learn to knock. Yes, I’ll knock next time. Definitely.” Blue was now in her room but still clearly visible through the doorway. “Okay, bye now,” she said, diving onto her bed and out of view. She lay there, thinking of Forrest’s expression, her babbling, and Mo’ata’s flexing. How her playful Forrest had blushed and fumbled and the serious clansman had acted like a schoolboy trying to impress his crush. She couldn’t hold in the laughter, and soon she heard it echoed by two voices from the other room.

Author Bio:

Cecilia Randell is the pseudonym for a lady author that has not quite worked up the courage to give you all her real name. She loves a good story, and often finds herself thinking “what if…”, so decided to put some of her ‘what ifs’ down in words for others to, hopefully, enjoy.
